Hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot. Good grief. Do I still live in Alaska?? It is crazy outside. It's been over 80 degrees at my house for two days in a row, and today is supposed to be more of the same. Global warming? Bring it. And yes, I realize for my crowd of southern readers that 80 degrees sounds like a heavenly break, but COME ON! THIS IS ALASKA! Eighty degrees is madness. I am running out of clothes for myself and my kids. We've been wearing the same things for days now, just because we have no other options! Craziness. The bummer is that the weather is supposed to break at the end of the week and then give us a week of rain. The reason that this is a bummer is that I am helping with a wedding that is on Sunday, and supposed to be outside. Poor Mallory. Should've gotten married two days ago!
On the docket for today? Cleaning and baking. It's maddening to have to turn my oven on in this weather, but we are running out of food. I usually have homemade stuff around, since it's so much cheaper (and tastier!) than store bought. But I haven't wanted to put extra heat in the house, so I haven't been cooking much. As a result, no leftovers, no baked goods. And I'm getting hungry. So I think I will throw some ribs in the crock pot, and bake a pie and some banana bread. My rhubarb is also about to pull a Borg and assimilate my entire front garden bed, so I've gotta do something about that. I have a recipe for rhubarb vanilla jam that I've been itching to try, so maybe I'll do that today too.
Perhaps I will call the Howells and extend a dinner invite. I do have quite a few ribs, and we haven't seen them much in the last few days. We can have dinner and then head in to Dn. John's softball game at 6:30. Ah, softball in Alaska in this wonderful weather. Can't beat it! So, Matthew and Stasia, if you read this before I call you, dinner at our place at 5. :)

OK, 80 degrees does sound nice to this southerner, but 70 degrees is way better. I'm looking forward to late October already. BTW, the forecast is for 97 degrees here Sunday! That, and at least 120 % humidity (to use the words of my Godson Robby). Enjoy the nice weather and the ribs! Remember, "the secrets in the sauce".
How incredibly nerdy of you to say that your rhubarb is pulling a borg. I'm so proud!
